The fancily named rosy tritonia (Tritonia diomedea) is a species of nudibranch (also known as sea slug) found in coral beds of the north-east Pacific ocean. Nudibranches in general are simply amazing - they are incredibly diverse and include, in my opinion anyway, some of the coolest and cutest creatures on the planet. Particularly interesting about the rosy tritonia is that it uses the Earth’s magnetic field to navigate using sensors found throughout its body. If swept away by a current, it uses this ability to head towards the shore, where it is most likely to find food and others of its species. (Also interesting about this species is that it has sex three times more frequently than it feeds, and copulates for over an hour each time. Impressive.)
