Is getting a PHD in zoology worth it?

I’m just going into second year of my Bachelor’s degree at the moment so unfortunately I couldn’t tell you from experience. I’m not sure yet whether I’ll pursue a PhD in the future. I certainly think that it is something that needs careful consideration, bearing in mind the huge time commitment (often more than five years) as well as the obvious hard work that will need to be put in throughout that time. From what I have heard or read, you have to be completely enthralled by your subject in order to motivate yourself through a PhD that may involve long hours, failed projects and tough competition. Only if you truly love Zoology and are sure you want to pursue a career that is strongly research-orientated or as a professor within the subject will a PhD probably be worth it. I found this page which seems to be pretty helpful and honest. Sorry I don’t have more expertise to help you out - good luck with whatever you decide!
